An interview is more than just answering questions. It is an opportunity to show how your experience fits the role, how you approach your work and how you come across as part of a team.

A lot of candidates go into interviews with the right experience, but without fully preparing how to present it. As with a CV, small changes in approach can make a real difference.

Some of the key things to focus on are:

· Understand the role before you walk in Take time to properly read the job description and understand what the role is asking for. Knowing the key responsibilities and expectations will help you shape your answers in a way that feels relevant.

· Prepare real examples Most interviews will come back to what you have done before. Think about examples that show teamwork, problem solving, reliability or handling pressure. Keeping these clear in your mind makes it easier to answer confidently.

· Keep your answers clear and to the point It is easy to overtalk when nervous. Try to keep answers structured and focused on the question being asked. A clear example will always come across better than a long, unclear answer.

· Show interest in the role and the business Employers want to see that you have a genuine interest. This does not need to be overcomplicated. A basic understanding of the company and why the role appeals to you goes a long way.

· Think about how you come across Body language, eye contact and general attitude all play a part. Being on time, engaged and approachable can leave a strong impression alongside your answers.

· Prepare for the practical side Make sure you know where you are going, what time you need to be there and what you need to bring. For online interviews, check your setup in advance so there are no last-minute issues.

· Ask questions at the end An interview is a two-way conversation. Asking a couple of simple, relevant questions shows interest and helps you understand if the role is right for you.

At its best, an interview should feel like a clear and honest conversation. It is not about having perfect answers, but about showing your experience in a way that is easy to understand and relevant to the role.
